Privacy Policy
Ryst · Last updated 15 June 2026
Ryst is a small place to put down anger and walk away. Privacy is not a feature of Ryst — it is how Ryst is built. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app does and does not do with your information.
Who we are
Ryst is made by Bred Applications, owned and operated by Jonathan Bredtoft, based in Denmark. For any privacy question or request, contact us at contact@bredapplications.com.
The short version
- However you choose to let a feeling out — by drawing it, writing it, or speaking it aloud — what you create stays only in that moment. It is never saved to a file and never uploaded, and it is destroyed when you shake it away.
- The only thing that is saved is a small, numbers-based history of your sessions, kept in your own private iCloud — never on our servers.
- We use no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising SDKs. We do not ask for permission to track you, because we never do.
- We have no server that can read your data, and we cannot see it.
What Ryst stores, and where
In your private iCloud (synced across your own devices, and restored if you reinstall). Each completed ritual saves:
- the time it ended
- the intensity you chose (1–10)
- how long you shook the device
- an optional post-mood (1–5)
- the feeling you named (for example, anger or grief)
Your optional display name and your in-app preferences (such as haptic intensity, reduce-motion, and language) are also kept in your private iCloud so your setup follows you across your devices.
If you write a personal note on a feeling card, that note is also kept in your private iCloud so it follows you across your devices. You can change or clear it anytime; it is removed when you delete your data, and included if you export it.
If you create your own feeling, the feeling you make — its name, colour, description, the body parts you choose, and an illustration you draw for it — is kept in your private iCloud so it follows you across your devices. This drawing is the one drawing Ryst saves, because it is part of a card you choose to keep — unlike anything you draw during a release, which is never saved. You can edit or remove a feeling you create anytime; it is removed when you delete your data, and included if you export it.
Only on your device (never uploaded, never synced): any short note you leave for your future self.
Never saved or uploaded: anything you draw, write, or speak during a release. Speaking uses the microphone to capture your voice for that one session — held only in memory, never written to a file, and destroyed when the ritual ends, exactly like your drawings and your written words. (The single exception is an illustration you deliberately draw for a feeling you create, described above.)
Because this data lives in your private iCloud, it is governed by Apple's iCloud terms and is not accessible to us. We provide the app; Apple provides the storage and sync.
Purchases
Ryst offers optional paid plans through Apple's App Store. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive or store your name, payment details, or card information — Apple manages all of that. We only learn, from Apple, whether your access is active.
What we do not do
- We do not use Mixpanel, Amplitude, Firebase Analytics, Segment, Sentry, Crashlytics, Bugsnag, Datadog, or any other third-party analytics or crash-reporting service. The app contains no telemetry of any kind.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
- We do not show ads.
- We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never have.
- We do not share your data with any third party other than Apple, as needed to deliver iCloud and App Store purchases.
Why we process this data (legal basis)
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we process the minimal information above to provide the service you asked for — your private history and the insights built from it. The legal bases are the performance of our agreement with you (providing the app) and our legitimate interest in offering a working, private product. Microphone access is used only with your explicit permission, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings.
How long we keep it
Your data stays for as long as you keep the app and want it. You are in control: you can export everything, or delete everything, at any time (see below). Deleting removes it from your device and from your private iCloud.
Your rights
You can exercise the following at any time, mostly without leaving the app:
- Access & portability: export all your data to a JSON file from Settings → Data → Export.
- Erasure: delete all your data from Settings → Data → Delete.
- Rectification, restriction, objection, and withdrawal of consent: contact us at contact@bredapplications.com.
If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. In Denmark this is Datatilsynet.
Your US state privacy rights
If you live in California or another US state with a consumer privacy law, you have rights to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. Ryst does not sell or share your personal information, and we do not collect personal information on our own servers. You can exercise the export and deletion controls described above directly in the app, or contact us.
Children
Ryst is rated 12+ and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
Data stored in your private iCloud is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple's iCloud infrastructure. We operate no server that holds or can read your data.
International transfers
Your data is stored and synced through Apple's iCloud infrastructure, which Apple operates and may process in different regions in line with Apple's own privacy terms.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Ryst handles data, we will update this policy and its "last updated" date. If a future change is significant — for example, if we ever introduce a feature that involves tracking or advertising — we will make that clear before it takes effect.
